HAIL GLORIOUS ST. PATRICK 6/8 Lyrics And Guitar Chords. The chords below fit the Wolfe Tones’ version. The lyrics differ sometimes slightly and the Tones only used the verses 1, 4, 5 and the below optional verse with the optional repeat, a traditional hymn I was always very fond of and with St. Patrick's day nearly upon us what better time to include it. Guitar chords by Marc Fahrbach and another first for this site. Sheet music notes included.

Intro: D-G-B-C   G-C-D-G

Hail, (G)glorious St. (C)Patrick, dear (D)saint of our (G)isle,

On (C)us thy poor (G)children be(Am)stow a sweet (D)smile;

And (G)now that you’re high in your (Am)mansions a(C)bove,

On (G)Erin's green (C)valleys look (D)down with your (G)love.

Optional repeat (play after each verse using its respective last line)

On (D)Erin's green (G)valleys, on (B)Erin's green (C)valleys,

On (G)Erin's green (C)valleys look (D)down with your (G)love.

Hail, (G)glorious St. (C)Patrick, thy (D)words were once (G)strong

A(C)gainst Satan's (G)wiles and a (Am)heretic (D)throng;

Not ()G)less is thy might where in (Am)Heaven thou (C)art;

Oh, (G)come to our (C)aid, in our (D)battle take (G)part!

In a (G)war against (C)sin, in the (D)fight for the (G)faith,

Dear (C)Saint, may thy (G)children re(Am)sist to the (D)death;

May their (G)strength be in meekness, in (Am)penance, and (C)prayer,

Their (G)banner the (C)Cross, which they (D)glory to (G)bear.

Thy (G)people, now (C)exiles on (D)many a (G)shore,

Shall (C)love and re(G)vere thee (Am)till time be no (D)more;

And the (G)fire thou hast kindled shall (Am)ever burn (C)bright,

Its (G)warmth undi(C)minished, un(D)dying its (G)light.

God (G)bless and de(C)fend the sweet (D)land of our (G)birth,

Where the (C)shamrock still (G)blooms as when (Am)thou wert on (D)earth,

And our (G)hearts shall yet burn, wher(Am)ever we (C)roam,

For (G)God and St. (C)Patrick, and (D)our native (G)home.

Optional verse

Hail (G)Glorious Saint (C)Patrick you're (D)Erin's great (G)pride,
Watch (C)down on the (G)Celts on the (Am)banks of the (D)Clyde,

With (G)green and white banners a (Am)cross and a (C)prayer,

Where (G)Erin's green (C)valleys look (D)down on Park(G)head

Repeat 1st verse

Song Words Without The Chords

Hail, glorious St. Patrick, dear saint of our isle,

On us thy poor children bestow a sweet smile;

And now that you’re high in your mansions above,

On Erin's green valleys look down with your love.

On Erin's green valleys, on Erin's green valleys,

On Erin's green valleys look down with your love.

Hail, glorious St. Patrick, thy words were once strong

Against Satan's wiles and a heretic throng;

Not less is thy might where in Heaven thou art;

Oh, come to our aid, in our battle take part!

In a war against sin, in the fight for the faith,

Dear Saint, may thy children resist to the death;

May their strength be in meekness, in penance, and prayer,

Their banner the Cross, which they glory to bear.

Thy people, now exiles on many a shore,

Shall love and revere thee till time be no more;

And the fire thou hast kindled shall ever burn bright,

Its warmth undiminished, undying its light.

God bless and defend the sweet land of our birth,

Where the shamrock still blooms as when thou wert on earth,

And our hearts shall yet burn, wherever we roam,

For God and St. Patrick, and our native home.

Optional verse

Hail Glorious Saint Patrick you're Erin's great pride,
Watch down on the Celts on the banks of the Clyde,

With green and white banners a cross and a prayer,

Where Erin's green valleys look down on Parkhead

Repeat 1st verse
